30 minutes with a coach: the basics, a safety briefing and how to fall. Courses start every hour, on the hour (1 PM, 2 PM, 3 PM and so on). Can't make the hour? Come anyway and we'll fit you in.
Most people worry about the same few things before their first climb. Here is the truth.
✕ MythClimbing is dangerous.
TruthIndoor climbing has one of the lowest injury rates of any sport studied. You climb walls 3 to 5 metres high over thick crash mats, and the free Intro Course teaches you how to fall safely.
TruthBeginners climb mostly with their legs, balance and footwork. Our easiest climbs have big holds, like a ladder, and you get stronger as you go.
Every first-timer starts on the same easy walls, with a coach nearby.
✕ MythIt's a macho sport.
TruthIt's one of the friendliest rooms in the city. People of every gender, size and age climb side by side, everyone starts on the easy walls, and the room cheers, it doesn't judge.
TruthMost climbers are adults. Kids love it too, but on most days our walls are full of grown-ups, many of them climbing after work.
86% of the 5,628 people who climbed at BoulderBox in the last 12 months were adults. 78% were aged 18 to 35.
✕ MythI'm too old or unfit to start.
TruthBouldering is made for grown-ups: a puzzle for your body and your head, an hour after work, indoors in purified air. You set the pace.
In a study of adults (average age 44), 8 weeks of bouldering lowered depression scores. Source: BMC Psychiatry, 2015
✕ MythI don't have time.
TruthAn hour is enough for a good session. We are open every day until 9:30 PM, and there are no class times to fit around: walk in when you are free.
Open daily 9 AM to 9:30 PM. Fridays from 3 PM.
